Vintage Valentines

So at one particular "old folks" thrift that I go to, the volunteers are the sweetest! They also have great deals - in fact I purchased my $2 Cuisinart food processor here. Score!

I spotted a bag of vintage cards for fifty cents recently and inside was this cute beaver valentine!

The bag had a bunch of pretty terrible Get Well cards and a sweet Easter one. Unfortunately, most of the batch were either written on inside or just plain dowdy looking. Haha, I can't complain for the price, but who donates used cards?!

This card is kind of hilarious although if you described to me the concept of a suicidal, love-struck beaver on a Valentine, I would probably look at you a little funny. =) I was just relieved to get one gem of a card within the junky pile.

Pyrex Delphite Casserole with Lid!

With all the vintage Pyrex I have accumulated, would it surprise you to hear that I just recently bought my first piece off eBay this month?

You might remember that I scored the bottom dish part of the prized Delphite Casserole dish at Value Village over two years ago for a mere five bucks. I used it in my garden to help me grow garlic and for a whole bunch of other things, like as a popcorn dish.

I've been waiting patiently for an opportunity to buy the lid and finally found one well priced on eBay. I was very nervous about it arriving in one piece, but as you can see, the seller packed the box full of peanuts and used plenty of bubble wrap.

I was pretty thrilled to see that beautiful blue colour peeking through the plastic.

Look at how that gorgeous lid fits on my piece! I scored the lid for $10 and the shipping was reasonably priced as well. I have seen this set sell for around $100 on the same auction site.

I'm so glad to have reunited these pieces, and so relieved about my first eBay Pyrex Purchase success!

Strawberry Shortcake Magnets

Hullo there everyone! I was over at my folks' place this weekend when my mom mentioned that she found a plastic baggie of some old magnets of mine.

I was pretty delighted to be reunited with my old Strawberry Shortcake buddies. I must have had these since I was a little girl. I can't believe I ever put them away!

I am still charmed by how these girls are named Lemon Chiffon and Angel Cake.

The purple kitty named Souffle is so cute. I loved that cat and remember having a scented figurine of her... Boy would I love to find that piece! I bet it is somewhere at my parents' house too!

I hope you found some goodies this weekend too. I'm linking up to ATG's Thrift Share!

Teak Bird Corkscrew Made in Denmark

I scored this cute little Corkscrew in the form of a teak bird on Ebay a few months ago. I have it shown here with my little mystery bird that I previously posted about.

I waited so long to post about it because I couldn't bear to open the package... it was in its mint original package, with a blue foil sticker reading "Made in Denmark".

Finally this weekend, I couldn't resist and tore it open. Look at the beautiful wood grain!

I paid $5.50 for this little guy plus $3 shipping. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I bought this over a year ago! The seller had multiple birds for sale. I understand that an old print shop had closed down in Connecticut, and that's where he found these treasures, all in their original packaging. I do wonder what they were doing in a print shop...

This little bird's head has a lovely shape to it. It is marked "Denmark" on the underside of its pedestal base.

There are three separate components to this piece: a corkscrew bottom, bottle brush head, and bottle opener body.

See how it all fits together? Brilliant!

Since I opened it and put it together, I've been admiring its graceful form. It's currently sitting at my computer desk. Unfortunately, I don't know much about this piece other than where it's made. No indication of the age at all. Has anyone seen one of these guys in the wild?

These two make a cute little pair, don't they?
