Michael Jackson Greatest Hits Music Book

Can you believe that tomorrow will mark exactly two years since Michael Jackson passed away? The world was stunned with the death of the King of Pop. I remember breaking the news to two people - a generation apart, but I got the same reaction of shock and sadness.

Shortly after the news hit, I found a vintage Michael Jackson Greatest Hits Keyboard Music book from the 80s at the thrift for 99¢. I had to buy it.

I feel so bad when I reflect upon MJ's tragic life. He obviously had many struggles and issues, but what an amazing singer, dancer, and entertainer. Did you know that he did not write down his music on paper? When he came up with an idea, he would get out a tape recorder and sing some lines so as not to forget.

When I was a 5-year-old Kindergarten student, my Mom would pick me up at school at lunchtime. Being the youngest of four kids, my afternoons with Mom were rare moments of just the two of us hanging out. One of my favourite things to do together was watch the MuchMusic channel (the Canadian version of MTV), where we'd often marvel at the cutting-edge Michael Jackson videos.

The book contains many of my favourite Michael Jackson songs... There are so many amazing ones that get my head bopping but my current favourite is Man in the Mirror. I love the lyrics, the music, and the message!

Do you have an all-time favourite Michael Jackson song?

  1. Great insight on MJ's life. He was a tragic figure but brilliant. I think my favorite is Thriller....it changed how I looked at him and his music for sure...

  2. I agree with Linda... I loved thriller and I especially loved watching the video every year around halloween. That was of course when MTV and VH1 actually played music videos. Black and White was also a great one! Sorry for making this long, but I have a funny story... when I was 3-4 yrs old my mom was looking for an LP with kids songs in Spanish, I suggested we get a Michael Jackson LP instead!

  3. Haha, Vintage Scapes, that is a great story, thanks for sharing. And Linda, yes, Thriller showed us how entertaining a msuci video could be!

I think the worst part about MJ's story is how he was taken advantage of by people who were supposed to be taking care of him instead. Sad. Well, his music and moves will live on forever!

  4. My 18 year old son realized who and how good MJ was after his death. He now knows many of his songs by heart...MJ's music bridges generations.
My favorite songs are Man in the Mirror for the message. I've quoted it many times in conversations regarding ecology, recycling, politics...anything, really.
The other song I like is Leave Me Alone. The video clip is pure genious.

  5. I'm one of the biggest MJ nerds alive, I'm sure of it. I don't go a day without listening to his music. I love his early jazzy stuff. I think my ultimate favorite is, "Show You the Way to Go" which he sang when he was with "The Jacksons". I also love, "I can't help it" and "Off The Wall." Living life "Off The Wall" is my life's motto ;) !

It's gorgeous, you must listen if you haven't heard it. This Greatest hits music book is a beautiful find.

  6. Ah, I've got to get more familiar with these other songs and video clips.

Boy, what we would give to turn back the clock and attend a Michael Jackson concert. Hard to even imagine how amazing that would be.
