Vintage Vancouver Canucks CCM Hockey Jersey

Regular readers here will know that I love my Vancouver Canucks. Tonight was the first game in the Stanley Cup finals and we came out victorious! The whole city is totally pumped.

A few months ago, I made my regular rounds at the Value Village, passing by the sports jerseys section. I saw a flash of my beloved vintage team colours on a jersey sleeve, pulled it out and found a nice CCM Canucks jersey with the old skate logo.

Priced at $11.99, I was alright with it until I spotted a hole near the crest on the front of the jersey. I decided that my local seamstress would be able to whip up a quick fix for a few bucks, so I brought it up to the till and mentioned it to the clerk. She comes back from speaking with the manager and says, "Would you believe that the new price is $7.99?" Woohoo!

I love the bottom trim on the back of the jersey with the stitched logo. I wonder why CCM lost the deal to be the official supplier of NHL jerseys... The honour now lies with Reebok and their Rbk hockey line.

Value Village pricing is an interesting (clever) place; when I visited the store just before the playoffs started,  I saw the same jersey in a different size selling for $49.99.  Talk about inflation!

The boys have won 13 Games so far... three more to go from here. GO CANUCKS GO!

Vintage Montreal Canadiens Hockey Jersey by CCM

So the Vancouver Canucks were beaten the other day by the Montreal Canadiens, and it stung. I have been a Canuck fan since the age of 8, and I know I will always love my Canucks. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I can confess that I purchased a Habs jersey!

Oh the horror! Just kidding... The reality is that I have a soft spot for this fellow Canadian NHL team, especially with their history and great simplicity of their logo and team colours. I spotted this kids jersey made by CCM with the tag that read "Garcon Boy M/M" at my local Value Village. Current NHL jerseys are made by Reebok, but I've always liked the old CCM ones from the 80s. This one has a stitched-on patch logo, which you don't see on some of the lower quality silkscreened pieces.

I have seen similar jerseys for the Canucks, Leafs, and Flames go for $11.99 or so in this same store, but this particular jersey was priced at $6.99. I have no idea why, but it was a deal too good to pass up, even if I don't think I know many Montreal Canadiens fans that could make use of this.

Sometimes the temptation of a good deal is just too much, and I end up making an impulse buy that sits in the closet, untouched for months. That's certainly one of the drawbacks to thrifting!

2010 Vancouver Olympics

I have to interrupt our usual comments on vintage stuff to make a note about the 2010 Olympics which begin tomorrow in our fair city, Vancouver! I can't believe how many times I am hearing my hometown name mentioned on NBC, the Simpsons, etc.!

Everyone's hero, Mr. Trevor Linden, retired Vancouver Canucks player was a torchbearer today and I was lucky enough to be there to witness it.
