Check out this trunk shot from a recent haul of Le Creuset I made off with...! Pardon the messy trunk - there is road salt, a pair of clippers, and some boxes to pad my new pretties.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCDxAgIYMHzcP2osOmCUaNuHNI-_EXSZPSQYEGq2WSQgaOdV3xG6HnLfYGwxbmt1QFKVKteFCAIcktJaid_ALRH863lizN_AFwVjffUgkNi_w4e-IN2zf9GLHWrkV171bLfN9MirmVCpzr/s1600/IMG_6522.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCDxAgIYMHzcP2osOmCUaNuHNI-_EXSZPSQYEGq2WSQgaOdV3xG6HnLfYGwxbmt1QFKVKteFCAIcktJaid_ALRH863lizN_AFwVjffUgkNi_w4e-IN2zf9GLHWrkV171bLfN9MirmVCpzr/s320/IMG_6522.JPG" width="270" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I have longed for this pumpkin casserole for quite some time. I noticed that it can be crazy expensive to buy (secondhand) around October, when the crisp autumn air reminds everyone of pumpkin spice this-and-that. It also coincides with the time when everyone is thinking of comfort meals in cast iron casseroles and Halloween!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This pic is from the ad that I happened to see shortly after it was posted.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
The seller was also looking to get rid of a large flame coloured dutch oven as well, and even though I didn't need it, it was well priced enough that I knew I could resell it quickly to help pay off my new pumpkin purchase.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBHLGEoALxyRvxHbqk5uFy4UP1YoWQuWWWCK0ggRpBsrHnac_MijXVViwtoy1AQW-VRxVFxWiiPkgqLMlrjaaSw3l5dVfxzOYQDoi8jo9rQl82eltMj4mo0ZgI2lVpvr8ad3d38m4C1hel/s1600/IMG_6511.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBHLGEoALxyRvxHbqk5uFy4UP1YoWQuWWWCK0ggRpBsrHnac_MijXVViwtoy1AQW-VRxVFxWiiPkgqLMlrjaaSw3l5dVfxzOYQDoi8jo9rQl82eltMj4mo0ZgI2lVpvr8ad3d38m4C1hel/s320/IMG_6511.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The seller also had a couple of Le Creuset accessories to round out the dutch ovens: a cast iron trivet, and a rubber spatula. I have heard this similar tale before, that the cooks love these pieces, and often received them as gifts, but find them too heavy to carry as the cooks get older.<br />
<br />
I'm still getting used to the idea of cooking something up in an irregular shape as this pumpkin casserole is in. Do you think people mostly use these for serving rather than stirring?SixBalloonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07310882196596088575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7974967562144177466.post-18863143639449883652017-03-15T16:13:00.003-07:002017-03-15T16:13:45.209-07:00Do Backyard Chickens Eat Polenta??I've suddenly found myself as an urban homesteader! Yes, that's right folks, meet Shake and Bake, my two backyard chickens. They are the Buff Orpington breed, and have a nice comfy coop to live in.<br />
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilkZo4Gc8d7ONnkd_4_blMu4B09aaNJFMf1vw6U8JTDKKeetZVv8zt9UAMCphN5GVj6AqDcyN9MtxdnlRzbanZyxra3drfMaYCpZ8Oxrb11jhEkAE2Wz3yeUXhcAhScofnVz1Q0zshLeEo/s1600/Chickens.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilkZo4Gc8d7ONnkd_4_blMu4B09aaNJFMf1vw6U8JTDKKeetZVv8zt9UAMCphN5GVj6AqDcyN9MtxdnlRzbanZyxra3drfMaYCpZ8Oxrb11jhEkAE2Wz3yeUXhcAhScofnVz1Q0zshLeEo/s320/Chickens.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
They really enjoy grazing in the yard, picking at grasses and weeds, and of course any grubs that are unfortunate enough to come up above the surface. I offered the girls some leftover cooked polenta, or savory grits, made of cornmeal, and they loved it! They are usually a really picky duo. They also occasionally get bread and oyster shells for the calcium and grit. Chickens love corn! They couldn't get enough of this stuff.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin4RspK0q0iyGyEN8CXk3tnzh0JXvNRmt6pBUYInjBoHhEyDkapbEIytoz4uPjcKHhcUCbjWLUIZEbaTXpXcVyHQ-5jj5n6A0quLfJSrRGseZvXIkJNqXD7s8WbYI0DfRW9lgBu-zch5sF/s1600/Eggs+in+Nesting+Box.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin4RspK0q0iyGyEN8CXk3tnzh0JXvNRmt6pBUYInjBoHhEyDkapbEIytoz4uPjcKHhcUCbjWLUIZEbaTXpXcVyHQ-5jj5n6A0quLfJSrRGseZvXIkJNqXD7s8WbYI0DfRW9lgBu-zch5sF/s320/Eggs+in+Nesting+Box.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am quite excited to open up the coop every day and be greeted by these beautiful, fresh chicken eggs. I'm not sure if you can tell, but one of these is a fake ceramic painted egg. This encourages the chickens to lay in their proper nesting box area.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2zdWM0GeyIS750COmQC1anGpGETBsUkCTwdYUSkXLwhwoJI1m0EMCOm1alrxiIXXt53k8QPUTAUgh70T4bbduUAeN6NzQE7PF0BPIynsrrcEHpZKz5pI6DyrCj9cCBrHxsF6KVjjusmtT/s1600/Egg+Yolks.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2zdWM0GeyIS750COmQC1anGpGETBsUkCTwdYUSkXLwhwoJI1m0EMCOm1alrxiIXXt53k8QPUTAUgh70T4bbduUAeN6NzQE7PF0BPIynsrrcEHpZKz5pI6DyrCj9cCBrHxsF6KVjjusmtT/s320/Egg+Yolks.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
One noticeable thing about the eggs from my little "farm" is that the yolks are very large and rich. They make a great sunny side up egg! Especially when fried up in duck fat in my vintage cast iron skillet.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div>
You may have noticed that there is a beehive in the rear as well!<br />
<br />
I have really missed writing on the blog! I thrift less, but still pick up a lot of beautiful finds. I love using the pieces I have too, so hope to photograph those and write more about how I use them.<br />
<br />
I am starting to get active on instagram, and will work on a button so you can follow me there @sixballoons!</div>

Estate sales are a bit of a rarity in Vancouver, so when I saw the sign, I pulled over pretty quick and made my way over.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijYKV4QzVkT_-bDKiG6McM9VxxksTZr18iT4_YDY94ICwXh0WJJCPyV766aJazCP-kxxOWtvywN_TzapxywxO8_5Z7m1ARAlbzzI_d58DpE_ErE_FOMC4uQUCva4H7DXywGudIvrxnZtYl/s1600/photo+5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijYKV4QzVkT_-bDKiG6McM9VxxksTZr18iT4_YDY94ICwXh0WJJCPyV766aJazCP-kxxOWtvywN_TzapxywxO8_5Z7m1ARAlbzzI_d58DpE_ErE_FOMC4uQUCva4H7DXywGudIvrxnZtYl/s320/photo+5.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I love those sales that aren't advertised on craigslist, when you pull up and just have no idea what to expect. This sale had a real interesting mix of old, high quality vintage. I was really tempted by this package of artists' pencils, with its vintage box. The pencils were made in the US - imagine a time when things were actually manufactured in the United States!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5aIPFlO1V6SACDtXU0stOT7c9YJvZ2qCzlVa5dKuQArnl9PWVJNXeTmtG4Jj-QYh_FVQ0_GtT2Caq3jaKMsMiIDtCi4sVtzLZL1dXuv685ocBwMuXLUeo2ZmQT4hg9m5vgKMajPPi0KCR/s1600/photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5aIPFlO1V6SACDtXU0stOT7c9YJvZ2qCzlVa5dKuQArnl9PWVJNXeTmtG4Jj-QYh_FVQ0_GtT2Caq3jaKMsMiIDtCi4sVtzLZL1dXuv685ocBwMuXLUeo2ZmQT4hg9m5vgKMajPPi0KCR/s320/photo+2.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is a blurry pic of the hubcap when I found it sitting propped up against a tree, in the rain. It was covered in grime and not looking too shiny when I picked it up. I figured for five bucks, I could clean it up and make it look good.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhD9Y9yWJXroA9XsKAAo1pAcM1ek9axy1z3PkPyNm0nv_JATcDVSlqj1Pbf53zosi1xxnfOlQuo9pWFKazhyu5rtn3e2oTO3pDHYa4doddXFOt-G7Z1ALlmJj5x8408Djan-8WGPCTQ0YXM/s1600/photo+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhD9Y9yWJXroA9XsKAAo1pAcM1ek9axy1z3PkPyNm0nv_JATcDVSlqj1Pbf53zosi1xxnfOlQuo9pWFKazhyu5rtn3e2oTO3pDHYa4doddXFOt-G7Z1ALlmJj5x8408Djan-8WGPCTQ0YXM/s320/photo+1.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
It certainly took on some more shine after a little bath!<br />

<br />
Here's what the inside looks like. I googled some pictures of old Mercedes convertibles that may have had this hubcap. My dad joked that I can't afford a Mercedes, but I can afford one of its hubcaps!<br />
<br />

<br />
The estate sale was a really interesting one, with an eclectic mix of vintage and artsy items. They had old tools, first aid kits, vintage spools, and wood crates. Unfortunately, a picker arrived there just before me and he was already amassing a big pile of great stuff. Always tough to watch a guy walk away with those goodies, but I'm still happy with my shiny little toy. =)<br />

I love coming up to a garage sale in the neighbourhood when you least expect it. You know, the ones that aren't advertised on craigslist, or the ones where the seller just wants to get rid of stuff.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
That must have been the case here, cause I scored this beauty for two bucks! It was definitely a low-effort kinda garage sale. I'm not sure if you can tell from these pics, but there was literally dog hair and bread crumbs on the interior of the pan... And some unknown sticky substance on the underside!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I found this in the bottom of a box of pans, and was pretty thrilled when the seller quoted me the price. Sometimes, you just have to dig around to get a deal!<br />

<br />
I ended up cleaning this pan by giving it a good scrub and seasoning it with some bacon fat. Luckily, I had a friend who was in the market for a good cast iron skillet, and it doesn't get any better than these puppies. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I purchased this last summer, and since then, it's been put to good use. Le Creuset cast iron skillets are great for searing things off since they retain so much heat, and do so evenly.<br />

I love good quality things, but it's hard to pay the $200 that this pan retails for. It's always such a high to get a smoking deal at the garage sale, even when it takes a little bit of work to shine the pieces up again. =)SixBalloonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07310882196596088575noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7974967562144177466.post-26348580977697130492015-10-09T11:47:00.002-07:002015-10-09T11:47:52.662-07:00Vintage Spice and Epsom Salts Tins!I was roaming around a flea market recently and came upon some shelves of old rusty tins of food items and pharmaceutical items.<br />

I love the old packaging and fonts on spice tins and goodies from the medicine cabinet. I even remember being a kid in the 80s and going through my mom's cupboard and checking out all the labels and little miniature bottles of ointments and such.<br />

I really enjoyed seeing this old spice tin, especially since it was marked with a Vancouver based company. I bet the stuff inside isn't food safe or anything, but it was funny to pick up these containers and note that they were nearly full.<br />

Pretty sharp edges up top on the canister though! Maybe some food packaging items these days are better in the modern world, eh?<br />

I always feel a little pang of disappointment these days when purchasing Vaseline and Mentholatum and the like, since they're always in plastic tubs with plastic lids. Too bad they don't have the metal lids and glass containers like they used to!<br />

I was at a flea market recently, and spotted a beautiful red pan sitting on the edge of a table full of junk.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6aaymbxGNas8v81zNP1P3EQuy1fHBBGnjcLERixHJPT3DMJz2xTYO0IkmWDubb_FCZuhK6N4pP9dPxd2cynlr8Zl8pIFQDy6wdh2Q6G40cvp2ZPzGF72-v_0KDa9Qf5yrILs4MqFBmH56/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6aaymbxGNas8v81zNP1P3EQuy1fHBBGnjcLERixHJPT3DMJz2xTYO0IkmWDubb_FCZuhK6N4pP9dPxd2cynlr8Zl8pIFQDy6wdh2Q6G40cvp2ZPzGF72-v_0KDa9Qf5yrILs4MqFBmH56/s320/image.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I immediately recognized the pan as a small enameled cast iron roasting pan that I had lurked on eBay for in the past - it is the perfect size for fitting inside my small countertop oven that I use all the time. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT4MuJXHgV_Uunr7NmpbnIRyuqs0pxPyQRapptiITJBDIwV8bjgOM8KLo02tTZXrIZ2GVdb3wyRjQ25TzbphRvJy0P06EEdlIAbRBWzgJzaAP4GJsT9WWQvmHxBYqR53_2ZBlnaBvY8Sj-/s1600/image%255B1%255D.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT4MuJXHgV_Uunr7NmpbnIRyuqs0pxPyQRapptiITJBDIwV8bjgOM8KLo02tTZXrIZ2GVdb3wyRjQ25TzbphRvJy0P06EEdlIAbRBWzgJzaAP4GJsT9WWQvmHxBYqR53_2ZBlnaBvY8Sj-/s320/image%255B1%255D.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The steel handles on the sides of the pan are characteristic of the older style Le Creuset roasting pan. The generation after this one ditched the handles, and rightfully so, I think! The steel handles seem easy to rust and hard to clean. I would also have a tough time finding them very useful with oven mitts on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyYVqeeOnvYZUIPLncpej4rLKEAlUvr_1rU7IGFZXNdT1ORnEv-bViI_JBPjqIIE1lWVOKhjnW8kA0xmXHECpXQBTgJKv9t2g7HL4HrnzgkjApc6wQ7160xz04Xmwxoi7hinezFGlgD8fE/s1600/image%255B3%255D.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyYVqeeOnvYZUIPLncpej4rLKEAlUvr_1rU7IGFZXNdT1ORnEv-bViI_JBPjqIIE1lWVOKhjnW8kA0xmXHECpXQBTgJKv9t2g7HL4HrnzgkjApc6wQ7160xz04Xmwxoi7hinezFGlgD8fE/s320/image%255B3%255D.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I walked up to the seller, acting very casual, and not even bringing the pan up with me. I asked him how much he wanted for the pan, and said, "Well, that one's made in France. It's a<em> Le Creuset</em>. My wife is French." I was expecting him to want a price higher than what I was willing to pay, when he closed with "I'd like five bucks for it." Music to my ears! Sometimes it pays to just act casual and not say a word. =)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEjCaI5FSb-TdYiCI_p2bKYHy5liHTbpKVEDbn7cWC9FJVN9PEABi0H-waqXXX1h7muqE6xJrrV0Ho5l6u8VpQqpW-i4tXSTu96d0SMFUDrEmj1OWaHR95PVIpIR1mkRqfkZJC8gcvgmu0/s1600/image%255B4%255D.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEjCaI5FSb-TdYiCI_p2bKYHy5liHTbpKVEDbn7cWC9FJVN9PEABi0H-waqXXX1h7muqE6xJrrV0Ho5l6u8VpQqpW-i4tXSTu96d0SMFUDrEmj1OWaHR95PVIpIR1mkRqfkZJC8gcvgmu0/s320/image%255B4%255D.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I hastily handed over my five bucks and collected my bounty. I ended up scrubbing this piece for a good twenty minutes with my trusty tools - lots of dish soap, a scrubber, and a wooden toothpick for the nooks and crannies.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The first thing I made in my pan was a nice, satisfying banana bread!SixBalloonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07310882196596088575noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7974967562144177466.post-80856347542105101572015-08-12T14:44:00.000-07:002015-08-12T14:44:17.742-07:00Vintage Billiards BallsHello Readers! Despite my long hiatus, I really am still thrifting. I made a great find this Spring at the Killarney Community Centre flea market. I love these unexpected events because you really have to sift through a bunch of junk to get to some treasure.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC31zC9SNW60grnH_hrzKgbOs2liE0RaYqNmPCWjFQB12hej4fUSTwzClOzpd8uKQYgorJfNgq3yxvokLzijvHJq_8qdoZAM1zZpfOlQtawt6QsY72lOwA6rBc4yWhcnfbPuy9KMnTtX4C/s1600/photo+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC31zC9SNW60grnH_hrzKgbOs2liE0RaYqNmPCWjFQB12hej4fUSTwzClOzpd8uKQYgorJfNgq3yxvokLzijvHJq_8qdoZAM1zZpfOlQtawt6QsY72lOwA6rBc4yWhcnfbPuy9KMnTtX4C/s320/photo+3.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I had really low expectations going into this community thrift sale. There were lots of vendors with cheap trinkets like sunglasses and nail clippers for sale, but one interesting booth caught my eye.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxK9lv86Y3jCappLHDWX5hzqcpeICb6goC-PcuG8kYqqz5RMZRjdBGiOd6UWADOX8yta10zwYd4EJshviGStqkqfpPzvMo7IskGqPdoRIHEv7VaFa_bvm2EwypSsDCcIDVOtw11-mSy_ZI/s1600/photo+11.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxK9lv86Y3jCappLHDWX5hzqcpeICb6goC-PcuG8kYqqz5RMZRjdBGiOd6UWADOX8yta10zwYd4EJshviGStqkqfpPzvMo7IskGqPdoRIHEv7VaFa_bvm2EwypSsDCcIDVOtw11-mSy_ZI/s320/photo+11.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
There was a fellow selling some old wood and leather goods, and his booth had odd items like huge vintage belt buckles and old toy tins. I was admiring his stuff and having a chat with him. In the meantime, as any seasoned thrifter would do, I started rifling around the boxes he had under his table.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTp0bD_kYJvGjIFGCh0l-P89SRWF16xgGGJd4S1huyGeLJsd-4AFufKD9wexRHLgPHHGUqAuU8bmTWVdbEkPp92v6sxUEAtApnw4cKD0Qajx2WjI9lApjD0tMMadUXnOtz_A7oBFXzcC5o/s1600/photo+5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTp0bD_kYJvGjIFGCh0l-P89SRWF16xgGGJd4S1huyGeLJsd-4AFufKD9wexRHLgPHHGUqAuU8bmTWVdbEkPp92v6sxUEAtApnw4cKD0Qajx2WjI9lApjD0tMMadUXnOtz_A7oBFXzcC5o/s320/photo+5.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
He had a dingy white plastic basket full of these old pool balls! I immediately saw a few that caught my eye - I love that minty green coloured one, and some of the number fonts were just great.<br />
<br />
It is likely that some or all of these balls are bakelite... Did you know that in the old days, pool balls were made with ivory? Crazy stuff.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFwEEq0xxuZxoQ9nz7HoNOzPD_JmMDJdDyb2GCK6laoSw_YLdJ1KjzO7ZDoZtU3pLe9-x4XCYmKaD1Bde8JJYOIgkoBSDNYhRE-X1KYKLgdatw3gdyxKp8xAbnT38uMhsQbGnFohd2Q02V/s1600/photo+2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFwEEq0xxuZxoQ9nz7HoNOzPD_JmMDJdDyb2GCK6laoSw_YLdJ1KjzO7ZDoZtU3pLe9-x4XCYmKaD1Bde8JJYOIgkoBSDNYhRE-X1KYKLgdatw3gdyxKp8xAbnT38uMhsQbGnFohd2Q02V/s320/photo+2.PNG" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
I remembered seeing a basket of old billiards balls at a hipster "curated" vintage shop recently, and nervously asked the flea market vendor how much he wanted for the balls. "Ten bucks for the whole lot, if you like it!" When you get a price like that, you don't haggle; you just get your ten bucks out and try to wipe the big grin off your face.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-RxUzL1uktNYuZUiUUF_RPtDzKVH3RwgsAuhfj_PlCnWDRcFlUkOqlq5RvPeUbrGy8aKMu0hBOH15Hm6hRgfMkNM5DyWD9VIq1xd3ux-vpvw5pYwDClAh5i4iDDGm_BKFMfqh89QNiRjQ/s1600/photo+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-RxUzL1uktNYuZUiUUF_RPtDzKVH3RwgsAuhfj_PlCnWDRcFlUkOqlq5RvPeUbrGy8aKMu0hBOH15Hm6hRgfMkNM5DyWD9VIq1xd3ux-vpvw5pYwDClAh5i4iDDGm_BKFMfqh89QNiRjQ/s320/photo+4.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
There ended up being 59 balls in the lot and they cleaned up really nice. I was really happy to pay less than 18¢ per pool ball as I was certainly thinking I'd end up paying more, for fewer balls!SixBalloonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07310882196596088575noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7974967562144177466.post-90695744473236065662014-03-12T04:00:00.000-07:002014-03-12T04:00:03.289-07:00Lemon Vinegar Cleaning SpraySo I have seen lots of blog posts and articles about homemade natural household cleaning sprays made of vinegar. First of all, I hate cleaning the house but I most certainly hate the chemical-y smell that lingers when I have to use spray Windex or Lysol.<br />

I read somewhere that one of the common ways we ingest pollutants and harmful chemicals is from overspray onto food prep surfaces, onto food itself, or into the air that we breathe.<br />

I've decided to see if the citrus infused vinegar mixture works as a safer alternate to commercial cleaning products. The concept is that the strong vinegar smell is a bit tough to take, so adding citrus peels helps tame that stench a little bit. The citrus oils then add their own nice smell, and provides some cleaning horsepower as well.<br />

I scored some of these great Improved GEM Jars, made in Canada, at my local thrift. They have an aluminum collar with a glass lid! Embossed! For 25¢ each! I think this is the perfect vessel for a little citrus vinegar project.</div>

I just peeled two lemons, a mandarin orange, and a large navel orange, then poured vinegar over them. The whole mixture is steeping in the fridge, where it will stay for a couple of weeks before I strain it. Then you simply pour into a spray bottle for window cleaning, and wiping down greasy or dirty surfaces. I hope it smells nice and cleans well - has anyone out there tried this before?SixBalloonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07310882196596088575noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7974967562144177466.post-83574699014456678132014-03-07T04:30:00.000-08:002014-03-07T04:30:01.589-08:00Sesame Street DIY Birthday Party and Loot Bags!This past weekend we had a birthday party for my son, who just turned 2! If you are still reading, loyal blog followers, yep, it's been a whole two years since my free time for thrifting took a serious hit. I wanted a nice Sesame Street themed party for the event, but of course, done on a thrifty budget.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-6aDXWtGQuiN90RgFsRb-m_e58UOt0QEKlkkYNudew04c-2kfLpcDFgzWILDLNkPN1yXKZNWDmyxaPMWj-JAVa3sUvwW8UgbVVF8EWnScLBFKNvqPJJ6l-5CJzD_GyKjRpcVNR1uH9eiP/s1600/e+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-6aDXWtGQuiN90RgFsRb-m_e58UOt0QEKlkkYNudew04c-2kfLpcDFgzWILDLNkPN1yXKZNWDmyxaPMWj-JAVa3sUvwW8UgbVVF8EWnScLBFKNvqPJJ6l-5CJzD_GyKjRpcVNR1uH9eiP/s1600/e+4.JPG" /></a></div>

I was able to score some amazing deals at Dollar Tree, and found some great DIY ideas out there as well. One of my favourite things was creating these little loot bags with the faces of Cookie Monster and Elmo, his fave characters from Sesame Street. A little construction paper and cardstock, and 50 cent bags from the dollar store, voila!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4ihipnBkqDpjLZWKWutdYuFcd71SZa_Kc4x6vqQvX7NucJ1RzY9HKh1c6DPUz8aMuLOonA4NMcMbNnSuIzUHbgCPdhzkoWX77Ol9onfpbxXay-sG4wdmDdKAkMT7EXblgHNP9Xuqy8l8L/s1600/Ballooons.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4ihipnBkqDpjLZWKWutdYuFcd71SZa_Kc4x6vqQvX7NucJ1RzY9HKh1c6DPUz8aMuLOonA4NMcMbNnSuIzUHbgCPdhzkoWX77Ol9onfpbxXay-sG4wdmDdKAkMT7EXblgHNP9Xuqy8l8L/s1600/Ballooons.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
Speaking of the dollar store, pardon this quick snapshot from inside our car on the way home, but I scored these awesome Elmo-face helium balloons at Dollar Tree - I had to call around to many of the stores locally as they sell out fast! I added some blue foil star balloons to get the Cookie Monster colours in there, but at $1.40 each after taxes, this was great bang-for-buck. They're still full and floating around the house, and we had extras for some of the little kids to take home.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglBrA16TbISfOtDnma_uqgcA03Wd3SPdcg-0X8UbDS9ljRNsto0Fq80wQO0wsschC3gdz9NwIoxGoPAdigHZQD2sDJlpKnxnioiyxFXyur0PjBW5HgB9YGe4mUWsjusQAgK9Rm-Id1s5Uj/s1600/Blower+Tags.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglBrA16TbISfOtDnma_uqgcA03Wd3SPdcg-0X8UbDS9ljRNsto0Fq80wQO0wsschC3gdz9NwIoxGoPAdigHZQD2sDJlpKnxnioiyxFXyur0PjBW5HgB9YGe4mUWsjusQAgK9Rm-Id1s5Uj/s1600/Blower+Tags.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
I saw some Sesame Street blowers online that I thought were pretty cool but didn't have time to get them ordered (nor did I want to pay for shipping and all). I found some Pirate themed ones in a package with terrible graphics and cheap cardboard on them. I slipped those off and just added these simple printed tags instead.<br />
<br />
It gave the kids something to look for with their name on it, and satisfied the germaphobe in me!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyNz6pcFPGd21dOl32MluICuY5RcP-bXPHxK59dX8CWcjIpjK1GIH-lCU7hHcsEfEWphfm0e62mX9kiLCJaATWeoDpGepURaB3LCQNL3fhR8FWWwvpadum2rX_Y-VP4Zo0bxzFq6OlGwga/s1600/bags.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyNz6pcFPGd21dOl32MluICuY5RcP-bXPHxK59dX8CWcjIpjK1GIH-lCU7hHcsEfEWphfm0e62mX9kiLCJaATWeoDpGepURaB3LCQNL3fhR8FWWwvpadum2rX_Y-VP4Zo0bxzFq6OlGwga/s1600/bags.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
I love the way the bags look all lined up in rows. For the party, we put them up high so they could be seen but not grabbed by the excited kids.<br />
<br />
Now I didn't get a chance to take a pic of the goodies inside the bag... Drat I forgot all about this! But the Dollar Tree has a lot of pretty fantastic colouring books, activity books, and flash cards that are all Sesame Street themed! I added some Goldfish crackers, notebooks, and that sort of thing to round out the bags.<br />
<br />
I had a great time putting these all together, but I'm really itching to go hunting for cookwares at the thrift now that this task is completed!SixBalloonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07310882196596088575noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7974967562144177466.post-51977978899095917832013-08-25T09:27:00.000-07:002013-08-25T09:27:45.408-07:00Easy No-Knead Bread!I have been baking up a storm since learning how to make no knead breads at home! It is much faster, easier, and more satisfying than I imagined it to be, and we are baking at least one loaf a week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNehvSHdS8nYTfkruhqTuB3inFBTcXFtAHYmSAv9KtALt5_IVNGNZci9i7F857upEfXhS0uQbGZCgdBLXxC1es8zhiY3JWHVkOj0CNcOJhd95AbHhqZb7_uTxtxSGc8IH4_KOennmt5pzO/s1600/IMG_6208.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNehvSHdS8nYTfkruhqTuB3inFBTcXFtAHYmSAv9KtALt5_IVNGNZci9i7F857upEfXhS0uQbGZCgdBLXxC1es8zhiY3JWHVkOj0CNcOJhd95AbHhqZb7_uTxtxSGc8IH4_KOennmt5pzO/s320/IMG_6208.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is what you'll need:<br />
<br />
3 cups all-purpose or bread flour<br />
1/4 tsp instant yeast<br />
1-1/2 tsp salt<br />
1-1/2 cups water<br />
<br />
Mixing bowl<br />
Spoon or spatula for mixing<br />
Oven-safe pot with lid<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEighxD6p-ZiqPsGodPR-MPX_LIe1Y8qM1jitq75jrGowbNToxyWDgjHWgOEu2uocs9SSuAxj9h9yRHt_XNX0pTqOL90x9ORWlryPmQQVWkPsKphOzVhO2XAdEQ_qA7g7-2xfVZP-CyyZ0n8/s1600/IMG_6155.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEighxD6p-ZiqPsGodPR-MPX_LIe1Y8qM1jitq75jrGowbNToxyWDgjHWgOEu2uocs9SSuAxj9h9yRHt_XNX0pTqOL90x9ORWlryPmQQVWkPsKphOzVhO2XAdEQ_qA7g7-2xfVZP-CyyZ0n8/s320/IMG_6155.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Combine your dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and slowly add in the water, combining it enough to make for a shaggy dough with few dry bits left over. It should look something like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidSTEa_KZpIP7hq6DX9X4oa9AANK_432AwurfRe42Z3cNeZGXekWx9SsOJHZBVwtbaVT2PaIZ4ncZvCjbfj3ZcAg9zDQbw99p-jEMi4xTCk2hpWci3KIrhDMCVeE9D5iuKkrZqjd9yd5He/s1600/IMG_6168.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidSTEa_KZpIP7hq6DX9X4oa9AANK_432AwurfRe42Z3cNeZGXekWx9SsOJHZBVwtbaVT2PaIZ4ncZvCjbfj3ZcAg9zDQbw99p-jEMi4xTCk2hpWci3KIrhDMCVeE9D5iuKkrZqjd9yd5He/s320/IMG_6168.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, or pop the whole works into a grocery bag and tie it up. Let sit at room temperature for 18 hours or so. Note: if you are in a hurry, place the bowl in a warm spot and you can get it down to a 12-hour rise. If you need more time, pop it in the fridge for a few of those hours to slow down the yeast.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKYZO9UnCl7Y-5-fZaaHFCZ698q_L9Yhp0_t4icYwb5Q41bHOBIGRaC-XgyWHQSGU_it3hVi6DRQb9Xz4XrMJ4MuenFD4vJDalWA0b0csUfL2qJS-STp35nVdp1Ilt8yWHHreo54mud7u/s1600/Bread+Zoom.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="253" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKYZO9UnCl7Y-5-fZaaHFCZ698q_L9Yhp0_t4icYwb5Q41bHOBIGRaC-XgyWHQSGU_it3hVi6DRQb9Xz4XrMJ4MuenFD4vJDalWA0b0csUfL2qJS-STp35nVdp1Ilt8yWHHreo54mud7u/s320/Bread+Zoom.bmp" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
When the time is up, the dough should be soft and wet, pulling away from the bowl with these beautiful gluten-y strands! You'll have to flour your hands well, and try to shape the dough into a rough ball and plop it back into the bowl.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2f4o1_dykfbojPEpOONeHgLjCI-RlnHQsWYW9r1gtZHEq-pS4QHkx54CH9KBEzV0offSQT_eT0UHnToCICQd2GELfQOuHN7k2yLu6Ydu5cCjJvNM2FjMBBtcrzcfn0rOqRqnnbVWJaaUN/s1600/IMG_6187.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2f4o1_dykfbojPEpOONeHgLjCI-RlnHQsWYW9r1gtZHEq-pS4QHkx54CH9KBEzV0offSQT_eT0UHnToCICQd2GELfQOuHN7k2yLu6Ydu5cCjJvNM2FjMBBtcrzcfn0rOqRqnnbVWJaaUN/s320/IMG_6187.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
At this point, preheat your oven to 450 degrees with a heavy heat proof pot with the lid on. I use a cast iron Le Creuset dutch oven. Let that pot get hot for 15-20 minutes or so, carefully take it out and plop the ball of dough inside. Cover it with the lid and back into the oven for 45 minutes!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj04Br4R63MtWBVWndVoMcJeMhIo_BKIaN5aPRUWWzoWzKpF7f5Ogk1zuqX9gkaoxn3RkjOC6iqMv8htfJLtxgEeJ3Xk_tdmlaDq60W9PpxiS4XD7KSZO7mQTbmR8m_3b_iQkiWzOFOHvJ/s1600/IMG_6194.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj04Br4R63MtWBVWndVoMcJeMhIo_BKIaN5aPRUWWzoWzKpF7f5Ogk1zuqX9gkaoxn3RkjOC6iqMv8htfJLtxgEeJ3Xk_tdmlaDq60W9PpxiS4XD7KSZO7mQTbmR8m_3b_iQkiWzOFOHvJ/s320/IMG_6194.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I usually try to flour the top of the bread and make some cuts with a serrated knife to make it look nice (it controls the seams where the bread will burst upon baking).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUblil-1Jm50zw7n-mH0jGr682iLHeeyafnH0OzdQwFuwgWMA-WiMEHhvqox5kNkXxDwU3yNGBHKGCETIHytD8OoeBAiRr9RFj97oNt0KIf93aeKeRw6cx8s5RkywyrPO1_WZktJZDNivP/s1600/IMG_6197.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUblil-1Jm50zw7n-mH0jGr682iLHeeyafnH0OzdQwFuwgWMA-WiMEHhvqox5kNkXxDwU3yNGBHKGCETIHytD8OoeBAiRr9RFj97oNt0KIf93aeKeRw6cx8s5RkywyrPO1_WZktJZDNivP/s320/IMG_6197.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's how it looks after 45 minutes. You can then take the lid off and let it cook for another 10-15 minutes, depending on how brown you want the top to be.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrxKM-aJqUTQMdKtA8U6PUHDCkXO95Uf2jXRBu0G2PDZ3iTncv-w4jTySCqcJYKun4CMwn54NYYVO37hj6PkfQ3JVMqeZ3YT149iicn6tJDG-je6ZMO3ZtmYBtWyI2pm5kg5yugI5ssImT/s1600/IMG_6205.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrxKM-aJqUTQMdKtA8U6PUHDCkXO95Uf2jXRBu0G2PDZ3iTncv-w4jTySCqcJYKun4CMwn54NYYVO37hj6PkfQ3JVMqeZ3YT149iicn6tJDG-je6ZMO3ZtmYBtWyI2pm5kg5yugI5ssImT/s320/IMG_6205.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Voila! Here's the finished product. Big airy holes, crunchy crust, and I know what all the ingredients are! This is a really good money-saving tip to learn too, as you get delicious fresh artisan breads at home for a small fraction of the price.<br />
<br />
I hope you all try this recipe and let me know how it goes. By the way, this easy yeast version is the gateway drug into sourdough bread baking!SixBalloonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07310882196596088575noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7974967562144177466.post-51392506914803077652013-05-19T20:31:00.000-07:002013-05-19T20:31:38.000-07:00Pyrex Butterprint Bowl and CasseroleThe same craigslist seller also had these great Butterprint pieces which I wanted to add to my collection.<br />

I wonder who came up with this quirky pattern with the farmers and wheat harvest images! It is kind of hilarious.<br />

I paid around $15 a piece for these, which is normally above my limit, but I really like the 403 size bowl and of course, the butterprint pattern reeled me in. Again. I mixed some bread dough in this bowl the other day and took some pics. I should be able to share that homemade bread recipe soon!

My cupboards are getting a bit full.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUsJ-Aro70opGhT-OyjvQhilYAHf5iiqfDSQk3m9ZdUU4vCXgk4bPPPoY3Mj7VILZ1TYgUaET89YD-hO1eokvuOqGbxFYgzrxNTChOhFRt6Ou1z_LaY9zQ4Y_T6UtGyJzWtYkm-IbOs6kt/s1600/IMG_6145.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUsJ-Aro70opGhT-OyjvQhilYAHf5iiqfDSQk3m9ZdUU4vCXgk4bPPPoY3Mj7VILZ1TYgUaET89YD-hO1eokvuOqGbxFYgzrxNTChOhFRt6Ou1z_LaY9zQ4Y_T6UtGyJzWtYkm-IbOs6kt/s320/IMG_6145.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
But there was no way I was going to pass up a chance to get my first Pink Gooseberry ever. I picked this 444 bowl off a craigslist seller.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0Ule8sRQA73v7r2W-XTBH-C7ibq5JEeZGdVSAQf7Wo2f7z3O1rDA7ezqQ5paDZaKyMRfQNpR8EHbUQ3JDeTZbcixnpq74Rbkc2PR_vE0JOg6tCo0QeCW-5KnGem9Jg_D-E2C5D9o1E5hd/s1600/IMG_6147.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0Ule8sRQA73v7r2W-XTBH-C7ibq5JEeZGdVSAQf7Wo2f7z3O1rDA7ezqQ5paDZaKyMRfQNpR8EHbUQ3JDeTZbcixnpq74Rbkc2PR_vE0JOg6tCo0QeCW-5KnGem9Jg_D-E2C5D9o1E5hd/s320/IMG_6147.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This pattern is so beautiful, and I think I prefer the pink over the yellow/black gooseberry pattern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And doesn't it look great with my <a href="http://sixballoons.blogspot.ca/2011/01/pyrex-aqua-blue-scroll-promotional-bowl.html">Blue Scroll bowl</a> thrifted at Value Village a few years ago for five bucks!?<br />

A Danish family lived there for over 50 years and there were many charming features, including this old photo that was on the fireplace mantle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I spotted this lovely pillow with embroidered tulips on it in one of the bedrooms. Love those vintage linens!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
There was a cute sitting area upstairs with green damask wallpaper. <br />
<br />

<br />
I bet that wallpaper is several decades old, but it looks great, doesn't it?! I would love to be greeted by this sight every time I walked up the stairs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
One of the children's bedrooms (apparently the "children" are retirees now) had a cute Casper the Friendly Ghost toy! Not sure why the head was backwards... <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg282-TieXNC2mNKvlmt8yJ3A21rTFALApYwgO7Ev3oaznNqVaV0UtQ7RnlL9wNhkEbwSPzKLPCdVaQmdgcQ7z_FC4iHjyl7RxueF85MNCzSiTYqsn0vmNjOvvhQQdKJDuleht2OLXLD-kI/s1600/IMG_6091.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg282-TieXNC2mNKvlmt8yJ3A21rTFALApYwgO7Ev3oaznNqVaV0UtQ7RnlL9wNhkEbwSPzKLPCdVaQmdgcQ7z_FC4iHjyl7RxueF85MNCzSiTYqsn0vmNjOvvhQQdKJDuleht2OLXLD-kI/s320/IMG_6091.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
There was also a little wooden soldier that looked like it had been well loved. This was a nice and whimsical looking room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Again with the wallpaper! The wallpaper and teak closet shelving!<br />

Unfortunately, the house was unaffordable for us, even if we were to eat Mac and Cheese every day for the next 25 years. Sigh. Again!Hello Friends and Followers! Sorry to have been away from you for so long! Don't worry - I have been Pyrexing...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Who doesn't love the PPMBS, aka the Pyrex Primary Mixing Bowl set? I have reunited a couple sets in the past and snagged these bowls off craigslist for $25.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj95Yv1wzFJsfbhFVjgrmfemZbZWaf3ROXXzkDCqQgVDEHMOscspQa7FrXZxb95_Q-tnTtRzFy6MvLPT0VrF3Ep9BTUxREIDgeQbiq3uz2IXprZblWKdPp6sfjCFPa0wdhoEko2_V_x3f3N/s1600/IMG_6049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj95Yv1wzFJsfbhFVjgrmfemZbZWaf3ROXXzkDCqQgVDEHMOscspQa7FrXZxb95_Q-tnTtRzFy6MvLPT0VrF3Ep9BTUxREIDgeQbiq3uz2IXprZblWKdPp6sfjCFPa0wdhoEko2_V_x3f3N/s320/IMG_6049.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />The seller had a brown 401 instead of the blue but I still thought the great condition made it worthwhile. In fact, this is the shiniest red bowl I had ever seen. Usually the reds are dull and scratched up. I wonder why? I noticed this on the fridgies as well.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaH58NfIkPngjsnc-NoOfI4eYYGVNlgxNfcsGGfSibZ5YhiMoV9_8RFWvchepKDMf5WeFhA3_n5ILtHIc8vcYqqAhusWuZD5CuqpjymJWL1JOeXkfp0OHMXPILwu1NwCoYgcNgvGXUAq10/s1600/IMG_6070.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaH58NfIkPngjsnc-NoOfI4eYYGVNlgxNfcsGGfSibZ5YhiMoV9_8RFWvchepKDMf5WeFhA3_n5ILtHIc8vcYqqAhusWuZD5CuqpjymJWL1JOeXkfp0OHMXPILwu1NwCoYgcNgvGXUAq10/s320/IMG_6070.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />My favourite of these primary colours is definitely the green. Unfortunately of this set, the green bowl is the most scratched up.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD1NB059B3RJ95Otb1y9EzxKmXAh2dwusky4JxkeRZHJwZQ1DAm9lq6zbrk8XLjA3tavJRYQy-aylRWd17LDQ5r2moaQsjfy8NdGMFuVD5Fe6jowaYvYndL00h2fnu1-DhqMY8YxoiiUOY/s1600/IMG_6050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD1NB059B3RJ95Otb1y9EzxKmXAh2dwusky4JxkeRZHJwZQ1DAm9lq6zbrk8XLjA3tavJRYQy-aylRWd17LDQ5r2moaQsjfy8NdGMFuVD5Fe6jowaYvYndL00h2fnu1-DhqMY8YxoiiUOY/s320/IMG_6050.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />Lately I have been buying and reselling a lot of my vintage Pyrex finds. I think I am too attached to my faves to let those go, so I have to cycle out the fresher goods. The thirst out there for Pyrex remains strong! I have found a lot of Pyrex Collectors locally.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBNW-4kO_IrgQSVZA3_0ghs2zkajEJNEhrdOZaMZMLav_B4pSSuQbIvI4z5SWCIHn5uREAyvhT2y-AaoH2e5pBA1MrXh9r_cydvrCingSAEaW-LtOLCxs350kHl1MNdpf9kz94W51lJv3L/s1600/IMG_6064.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBNW-4kO_IrgQSVZA3_0ghs2zkajEJNEhrdOZaMZMLav_B4pSSuQbIvI4z5SWCIHn5uREAyvhT2y-AaoH2e5pBA1MrXh9r_cydvrCingSAEaW-LtOLCxs350kHl1MNdpf9kz94W51lJv3L/s320/IMG_6064.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />I feel a little bad adding to the trend of increasing prices but I still think I price my selling Pyrex pretty low. Have you all be downsizing your collections too?

<br />
I have never really had much luck at this location, but you just never know. I spotted this Pyrex promotional Buffet Twins set, complete with cradle and lids! It was all taped up with packing tape, which is usually so hard on the gold leaf pattern. I cringed as I removed it in the store to see if there was damage.
<br />

Luckily, the lids were blemish free, the interiors perfect, and the pattern in good shape.

I thought the set was a bit steep at $15 but I had to have it! I have never seen a cradle with full set in the wild before!

<br />
I think the brass cradle has made some scratch marks on the pieces themselves but I don't know if there is any way to avoid this, other than ditching the cradle. I feel like I always need to gingerly set the casseroles down!

I mentioned before that I saw the compass divided dish but it was actually the Constellation pattern, the one with the yellow stars. I kind of regret not buying it now, as it was perfect and complete with its lid... Would you have scooped it up for eight bucks?

I love coming across patterned lid pieces, especially when they are in such great condition! I prefer these small lidded casseroles over the divided dishes... I never seem to know what to do with those.<br />
<br />

<br />
I paid $8 for this little guy, which made me cringe a bit, but it was in such good shape. Someone must have dropped off their pyrex collection that day, as I also saw a Butterprint mixing bowl (badly dishwashered) and a perfect golden compass snack server.

Well I have been using it a lot and kept thinking about whether or not I could clean up the dirty underside a bit.

<br />
I actually bought my Bar Keepers Friend for use cleaning vintage Pyrex, but saw a blog post somewhere touting its ability to clean stains on the exterior enameled surface on LC pots.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnYG6hkEaxIjRRi9G_Wqvz9-JWIOVF5vokCRYiovzYwa_En8AC9-skIpYfMBTUqVIUJ1nKB2w5aquLnXGoSYdRbcB4CmFcWpEDrGa-OubulP5AhcwPCI9ZSHf26_gKV1AzG7g8d_poGAHr/s1600/3+During+Cleaning.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnYG6hkEaxIjRRi9G_Wqvz9-JWIOVF5vokCRYiovzYwa_En8AC9-skIpYfMBTUqVIUJ1nKB2w5aquLnXGoSYdRbcB4CmFcWpEDrGa-OubulP5AhcwPCI9ZSHf26_gKV1AzG7g8d_poGAHr/s400/3+During+Cleaning.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I moistened my thick paper towels and sprinkled on the BKF, then started scubbing gently. After one cleaning, I was starting to notice some improvement. I gave it a quick wash to see if the enamel lost any sheen, but it was fine. I gave it a second round, scrubbing a little harder.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Here is the Before and After:
<br />

Anyone else used BKF on Le Creuset with success? I am pretty happy with it, and might tackle another scrubfest this weekend.

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKKPvLMUzviVSe7Eqou7CPsMZvNbvm8ylciltasdjfxrGkTVC2LVtmaZ1mxJ6QOt-8mfz1MzeYvU1x2C4pYxUlCj6dVI8pIG4_qF9hiucgSCy32PwgWgv9cJymyBeYp2caS5R38a751MBP/s1600/Dansk+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKKPvLMUzviVSe7Eqou7CPsMZvNbvm8ylciltasdjfxrGkTVC2LVtmaZ1mxJ6QOt-8mfz1MzeYvU1x2C4pYxUlCj6dVI8pIG4_qF9hiucgSCy32PwgWgv9cJymyBeYp2caS5R38a751MBP/s400/Dansk+1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Among a bunch of cruddy old fondue pots was this vibrant kelly green Dansk Kobenstyle saucepot! Designed by Jens Quistgaard and made in France, I read somewhere that the green colour is the rarest... Only produced for two years.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZGIS00lr4X7-G9WoXL4hJc9qWUAQQrYDdEwtZIW_xkGLFDPj7lXs9KhcXUg1B1uSobgQD7jiTKPiBM4oSFmjAbb2_OIBPQgYlzvMNyaqKsLh9cLqdFGCJbD9XidooTEUFz1oJ0xDBKeFZ/s1600/Dansk+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZGIS00lr4X7-G9WoXL4hJc9qWUAQQrYDdEwtZIW_xkGLFDPj7lXs9KhcXUg1B1uSobgQD7jiTKPiBM4oSFmjAbb2_OIBPQgYlzvMNyaqKsLh9cLqdFGCJbD9XidooTEUFz1oJ0xDBKeFZ/s400/Dansk+2.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
There was a really stubborn Value Village sticker covering the label. Methinks that this is why it was still waiting to be picked! It was five bucks, and in great condition.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlEumjEUnO26hdme1jEGesAW0w3fbUblSxAYiS8ZhZMUv5YzJYxG9oQ3GSzCYWYjzxV1zz8KXsBg3Od7LAsOhho87VJdjxi8WTrPZmZ-ghzPc44qeN0erztl1YoJ7lPisiaQSz-RNBCCdX/s1600/Dansk+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlEumjEUnO26hdme1jEGesAW0w3fbUblSxAYiS8ZhZMUv5YzJYxG9oQ3GSzCYWYjzxV1zz8KXsBg3Od7LAsOhho87VJdjxi8WTrPZmZ-ghzPc44qeN0erztl1YoJ7lPisiaQSz-RNBCCdX/s400/Dansk+3.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I haven't decided yet whether to keep it for myself or try selling it on craigslist!

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmfUU-TFyG0_qt8WbbGDAJporoYMqJz06LNSK4f6ePu0zcaIrInTgRlOKF4rhXbakPOsEdBgSAjV_pzc57Om5vthoUYW3zavA6miG6uaQYulx3YdB7qzAXI8j1935NV2SjFc3__hX7favX/s1600/IMG_5925.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmfUU-TFyG0_qt8WbbGDAJporoYMqJz06LNSK4f6ePu0zcaIrInTgRlOKF4rhXbakPOsEdBgSAjV_pzc57Om5vthoUYW3zavA6miG6uaQYulx3YdB7qzAXI8j1935NV2SjFc3__hX7favX/s400/IMG_5925.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Have I mentioned that I just love fridgies? I spotted the yellow 503 from the primary colours set and it was in almost-perfect condition. I swooped into the aisle quickly because a young hipster was scouring the shelves nearby, and you just never know!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVEw0B5m8xcmRhr0zIE9rCyC4GgsyOyKTF9k2fIUgtv5J44gaQWr6iBzcnVogLnyR1m_SeAoJagWW71cISWX8J54lvesruc2MEGY3C_dvH6WnFC6rOwEZcXLoOyaGWjDz4VGsCftODiw1g/s1600/IMG_5926.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVEw0B5m8xcmRhr0zIE9rCyC4GgsyOyKTF9k2fIUgtv5J44gaQWr6iBzcnVogLnyR1m_SeAoJagWW71cISWX8J54lvesruc2MEGY3C_dvH6WnFC6rOwEZcXLoOyaGWjDz4VGsCftODiw1g/s400/IMG_5926.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I hesitated bigtime when I saw the $6.99 pricetag. With tax, that is almost eight dollars! I caved and bought it, convincing myself that I have an orphan lid at home that has been waiting for it.<br />

I use the dishes for marinading fish, holding and serving salads, and baking brownies so it really doesn't hurt to have multiples.

I also think it looks pretty cute with my Primary Blue and Delphite Blue Fridgies. =)

I have been reflecting on the last year over the holidays. Having a baby in February was a life changing event in many ways... Ever since I was 14, I worked summer jobs when I wasn't in school, and never really took any breaks. The longest vacation I took was four weeks to get married and it felt so luxurious. I looked at maternity leave as a big holiday, thinking I would garden, nap, blog, thrift. I got a little less done than I wanted but it has still been great!<br />
<br />
The little guy turned 10 months old on Christmas day, and I am gearing up to return to work next week. It will be part time at first, then back to the full time grind at the end of February. I feel very lucky that I have been able to take this much time off, but still have mixed feelings. I am anxious about being away from him, but eager to get that independent part of my working life back!<br />

<br />
One of the things I enjoyed this year was baking no-knead artisan breads at home, and then moving on to sourdoughs with my own homemade starter. I hope you all are interested in hearing about it, as I am hoping to write some posts on it. It is a great frugal means of having good real bread, and I use my vintage kitchen goodies to prepare it!

Thanks for sticking with me and my sparse posts through the year. I hope things become a bit more "normal" in the new year and I get a little more thrifting in!SixBalloonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07310882196596088575noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7974967562144177466.post-8257750520372259852012-12-28T03:30:00.000-08:002012-12-28T03:30:00.015-08:00Reselling Vintage Le CreusetI hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! Ours was busy and fun, and we are enjoying the rest of the holidays!<br />
<br />
I have been buying and selling vintage Le Creuset cast iron pieces here and there. Sometimes I see a smoking deal and sometimes I am just looking to pare down my own collection... I am always tempted to keep them, but it is probably a good idea to keep things moving!<br />
<br />

<br />
This beautiful set from the 50s is in the pastel "Elysees Yellow" colour and came with a 5 quart dutch oven and a small saucepan. I purchased it off etsy for $40 plus $15 shipping and flipped it for $120 locally.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo88xUr_8a-sIGWPEvCMeKIKS4f3MqLtEAzuRdlVTrpcK134iwWIqMG8auyJ7aaxgh_bDD5dzRGXdRhhXd6Uq30SrXcFxwVGf49KFETgXEa5HAPvRXROJH3HgkuAD2fPZxCXDBljtRWB96/s1600/Yellow+LC4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo88xUr_8a-sIGWPEvCMeKIKS4f3MqLtEAzuRdlVTrpcK134iwWIqMG8auyJ7aaxgh_bDD5dzRGXdRhhXd6Uq30SrXcFxwVGf49KFETgXEa5HAPvRXROJH3HgkuAD2fPZxCXDBljtRWB96/s320/Yellow+LC4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I think my buyer still got a great deal, as the set was in great shape. Apparently Marilyn Monroe owned a Le Creuset set in this colour! The original etsy seller doesn't ship to Canada but my sis picked it up for me across the border.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5U-_eGgQ35k2zHA8H_Av615bCRORFRUbAYB3tOebVFQO_cxGOekhmvAl2UERNc1kAijLSetStqZMybvow_XXeXVW_8tH-cyTRyFjsvjHJU4zpk8kO5d9JmClSvwg0YuHQ8v535sKwwDwj/s1600/IMG_5772.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5U-_eGgQ35k2zHA8H_Av615bCRORFRUbAYB3tOebVFQO_cxGOekhmvAl2UERNc1kAijLSetStqZMybvow_XXeXVW_8tH-cyTRyFjsvjHJU4zpk8kO5d9JmClSvwg0YuHQ8v535sKwwDwj/s320/IMG_5772.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Another piece I sold recently was this flame coloured large #20 saucepan with wooden handle. I had actually found the orphan lid in the wild while thrifting a couple years ago, dreaming that I would be able to find its bottom.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIDO9AZCv1ZvqsKKAKnpwAD6aFJOT4kzXJajmCPcLbb4mi-MawZO35woXv-N-D9Zbt6zkY9sq4BcMvocgt45n_oWoYdOtPGUnmJjonv2zUFrWjq6pW4eah1S_tL4rJU1QL55nLWaLOjY1k/s1600/IMG_5774.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIDO9AZCv1ZvqsKKAKnpwAD6aFJOT4kzXJajmCPcLbb4mi-MawZO35woXv-N-D9Zbt6zkY9sq4BcMvocgt45n_oWoYdOtPGUnmJjonv2zUFrWjq6pW4eah1S_tL4rJU1QL55nLWaLOjY1k/s320/IMG_5774.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I caved and bought a lidless pan on ebay for cheap, reunited them, and sold them to another happy local buyer. I spent about $20, and was able to sell it for $50.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGCxOXacm2gNAzlSnHvQHbMnaMPqYVkygbsw8mleHlZJ0trdCDWlGVua880or8Bk94UfvjRuj0k6ViRld5LtTqbElhRj3WAQhYayTnyralLteAnT8dTL8a_09GpuTodKnfR7BT80vrdOFy/s1600/IMG_5776.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGCxOXacm2gNAzlSnHvQHbMnaMPqYVkygbsw8mleHlZJ0trdCDWlGVua880or8Bk94UfvjRuj0k6ViRld5LtTqbElhRj3WAQhYayTnyralLteAnT8dTL8a_09GpuTodKnfR7BT80vrdOFy/s320/IMG_5776.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I rubbed a little mineral oil on the old wooden handle because these get pretty rough over time.<br />
<br />
I like to keep my collections kind of light because I have a tendency to hoard my thrifted goodies! Hopefully I will be able to stay disciplined and keep only the items I really love and get lots of use out of!<br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgujNp_eu8ljlL2Zkxt5nxZCeRU9LeogiX9CFTdIEDcYdyI4Ty-cqQv3nktStX31lMpeOiqdU4UJe9ZRSUL5doMZdXtyR6ejleHK3eJ8JaHV_yaRyGSeF0bN0JtwhkK4WOxfM251pASV8LB/s1600/IMG_5893.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgujNp_eu8ljlL2Zkxt5nxZCeRU9LeogiX9CFTdIEDcYdyI4Ty-cqQv3nktStX31lMpeOiqdU4UJe9ZRSUL5doMZdXtyR6ejleHK3eJ8JaHV_yaRyGSeF0bN0JtwhkK4WOxfM251pASV8LB/s320/IMG_5893.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I normally wouldn't buy a thrifted food item, as in the bag of Starbucks Christmas Blend coffee but it was the brand new mug that caught my eye! I am actually not a coffee drinker but my dad is, so I figured for the three bucks, he could use the mug and toss the coffee beans.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL5bh44B0ufk_u88VjtTsEmVGXNvCLNsLAfAuj3Jzc_3NoFdtw0sZTTlMbp1J91t0uuW2iC5XIGGnqpK92gzTOkkIVhRx_cyGcrbrAEPg6oCdFJ45sSeiuBR6_6wjW7kVXx3fn0qU0kMsk/s1600/IMG_5896.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL5bh44B0ufk_u88VjtTsEmVGXNvCLNsLAfAuj3Jzc_3NoFdtw0sZTTlMbp1J91t0uuW2iC5XIGGnqpK92gzTOkkIVhRx_cyGcrbrAEPg6oCdFJ45sSeiuBR6_6wjW7kVXx3fn0qU0kMsk/s320/IMG_5896.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
When I got home, I saw that the underside of the mug was stamped 2012, so I thought maybe this coffee isn't stale after all. I let my dad decide, and he inspected it and concluded that it was sealed and probably ok... All in all, three bucks well spent, me thinks! <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg89aJwTKFWdpjkgjSEFW4BAdVETWp0eTVyvL8WjVjWrL7kJB3hrDRUoeZfb8NfsZInTy53sL9d2xaOUId6FHq2ynG4aZhbn7Qhq2SI92oitO6NBUEiZDNSwe0qljXLJWxYkAh_3oCv9hSh/s1600/IMG_5885.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg89aJwTKFWdpjkgjSEFW4BAdVETWp0eTVyvL8WjVjWrL7kJB3hrDRUoeZfb8NfsZInTy53sL9d2xaOUId6FHq2ynG4aZhbn7Qhq2SI92oitO6NBUEiZDNSwe0qljXLJWxYkAh_3oCv9hSh/s320/IMG_5885.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Luckily, I am an under-the-table-box-rummager. There were half empty Martha Stewart decorations and boxes of mismatched ornaments, all marked $2. Then I spotted an unopened box of great looking bulbs.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJV6xLa8nQfH3YLKsU4reTEzdMaWvPIcuk4IEDicv7KEihHs_fFVSvTEtSlckWteccPVP5yMEjEZAnaxacnihsK3AxsaNDOrd2VGqoz9xGBT4JLyBb2HTRJpCkmbd9SdTKpSH5GkBmlw_v/s1600/IMG_5883.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJV6xLa8nQfH3YLKsU4reTEzdMaWvPIcuk4IEDicv7KEihHs_fFVSvTEtSlckWteccPVP5yMEjEZAnaxacnihsK3AxsaNDOrd2VGqoz9xGBT4JLyBb2HTRJpCkmbd9SdTKpSH5GkBmlw_v/s320/IMG_5883.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Also two dollars! The box said that they were handcrafted glass ornaments made in the Ukraine and originally cost $25. Ulp. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC8P5mUZrchGEKu7MDnYT1fu-AmqY8URwWK9WDc8tRX6JgiA-eFxqan_jVtZPcFzbHvWu_YrKFgbPchhDw-qerYXFbR3uhz8pRJayKxbJ4pAF9BKRxt3LzPw36xBG2cgz5LJ_E9Ov_IDHD/s1600/IMG_5880.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC8P5mUZrchGEKu7MDnYT1fu-AmqY8URwWK9WDc8tRX6JgiA-eFxqan_jVtZPcFzbHvWu_YrKFgbPchhDw-qerYXFbR3uhz8pRJayKxbJ4pAF9BKRxt3LzPw36xBG2cgz5LJ_E9Ov_IDHD/s320/IMG_5880.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I am still hoping to find a box of vintage Shiny Brites someday (I have never seen any in the wild) but these were a great score too!
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJK9LdyzMos4my8Q4S9UCJiRc_j0H7UUGa5lA5zG7GFMy7Tsrp-1cJWPf4h9oDW_r97foWxcMBA8KwariuiDeFBMew-E9eWzpMUbf5pzIqUdg7Uz9KKqkh0-i3xIe7kXUEn86b2KS7yWLp/s1600/IMG_5901.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJK9LdyzMos4my8Q4S9UCJiRc_j0H7UUGa5lA5zG7GFMy7Tsrp-1cJWPf4h9oDW_r97foWxcMBA8KwariuiDeFBMew-E9eWzpMUbf5pzIqUdg7Uz9KKqkh0-i3xIe7kXUEn86b2KS7yWLp/s320/IMG_5901.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Hubby manned the stroller so I could swoop through the crowds unhindered and I spotted a vintage Pyrex D Handle measuring cup... Then, I saw that it was nested inside a larger 4 Cup that matched!<br />

Curiously, both were priced at $2 a piece. <br />

<br />The awesome thing is that I had gone into a Salvation Army a few days before and left empty handed. The best thing I saw was the exact same Pyrex 1 cup, but with a badly chipped handle. I think this was meant for me!<br /><br />

<br />I am so glad to have this little set. The only problem is that I have a few more measuring cups thqn anyone really needs... Honest, I did not set out to collect measuring cups!<br /><br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmezan99FcgDubPB3CBwjQJQhrW7Nn14xEXi5QXXKSTi7j5r6UtiBtmNjV9MFkFg6EvYm2U0jKqZtx6Po3FbYQEpj_zf4tskoyP8gRXLonj0AC3wzexissxWm4_LNqzeZWcnh795SHnB3N/s1600/IMG_5852.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmezan99FcgDubPB3CBwjQJQhrW7Nn14xEXi5QXXKSTi7j5r6UtiBtmNjV9MFkFg6EvYm2U0jKqZtx6Po3FbYQEpj_zf4tskoyP8gRXLonj0AC3wzexissxWm4_LNqzeZWcnh795SHnB3N/s320/IMG_5852.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I have a little Christmas thrift haul to share, from a church sale I went to a while back. Nothing too earth shattering, but I think I got a couple nice items. I love all Charlie Brown items, especially the vintage stuff, so I was excited to find this satin ball ornament from the 80's.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVCWHYVSSKFBMDNt_XvNEoTxYejrVpPuexVBWiJZcvhvYTBYJrVk-JDk-z-DQxyMe9TL1kc01KqcC56hSu0-8dUGcS-6qkMmqZlA8w6JkP0InW89YbLW6gfmyVnLsCTByEDsxZWpLy83E6/s1600/IMG_5851.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVCWHYVSSKFBMDNt_XvNEoTxYejrVpPuexVBWiJZcvhvYTBYJrVk-JDk-z-DQxyMe9TL1kc01KqcC56hSu0-8dUGcS-6qkMmqZlA8w6JkP0InW89YbLW6gfmyVnLsCTByEDsxZWpLy83E6/s320/IMG_5851.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
In fact, I snagged this $2 grab bag just for that ornament, really!
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn1oFcdHs-7DyLB1MEgDgLNq_l7EDfQWC27XjfjnhS513RRtbKgfGhD8RkBTsq2B0Or7G4p2vKrEdSxMAdHQgn7ZS2pNWQn7d33WvD135eJOEJseIrIM3CDULSbvU5yGXmHS3dvtSOzZ0u/s1600/IMG_5846.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn1oFcdHs-7DyLB1MEgDgLNq_l7EDfQWC27XjfjnhS513RRtbKgfGhD8RkBTsq2B0Or7G4p2vKrEdSxMAdHQgn7ZS2pNWQn7d33WvD135eJOEJseIrIM3CDULSbvU5yGXmHS3dvtSOzZ0u/s320/IMG_5846.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also grabbed this box of nice red glass ornaments. Can you see the price tag there? When I went to pay, they charged me fifty cents EACH for the four balls... That wasn't really what I had in mind, but I don't mind too much when it's a fundraiser.<br />
<br />

<br />
Poor ole Charlie Brown, he looks so cute and sad at the same time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicHgBfmBUQZM690GX0r1zoBNzImRvCrCBk7EtwMo1brzBEwD2wp9xtt_jvpSx2Yhp6KOyi52RlmDv-eDj5CwAoaS9avcKLFiCUnS_9nQnSkvq7rxlTTad87NhL_kEGbmMWP1mBciNEtnYy/s1600/IMG_5855.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicHgBfmBUQZM690GX0r1zoBNzImRvCrCBk7EtwMo1brzBEwD2wp9xtt_jvpSx2Yhp6KOyi52RlmDv-eDj5CwAoaS9avcKLFiCUnS_9nQnSkvq7rxlTTad87NhL_kEGbmMWP1mBciNEtnYy/s320/IMG_5855.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Out of the $2 grab bag, the three items above are what I kept. I have a thing for those old wooden ornaments.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU_5aaE63KAQ350rPMR0jDcFlmw38HBEXZl62EA99Wt2l2FwLlQ0D26HoC_H3Wa7fTvO7mVmfBc2k4W6G8it1gvWiAE-q7bwQ1BdHuBflc5alEOILTN9Idjsq2H2u7-1rO-Mig0DcD4Y-N/s1600/IMG_5856.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU_5aaE63KAQ350rPMR0jDcFlmw38HBEXZl62EA99Wt2l2FwLlQ0D26HoC_H3Wa7fTvO7mVmfBc2k4W6G8it1gvWiAE-q7bwQ1BdHuBflc5alEOILTN9Idjsq2H2u7-1rO-Mig0DcD4Y-N/s320/IMG_5856.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And these four went back to the thrift!<br />
